Egypt FM Abdelatty highlights Egypt-Russia partnership 2025
Egypt (Washington Insider) – Egypt’s Foreign Minister Bad
Abdelatty spoke at the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Cairo on Dec 20,
2025, emphasising Egypt-Russia-Africa cooperation, UN-based reforms, Action
Plans 2023–2026 and 2026–2029, and African representation.
As the State Information Service reported, Cairo hosted the
2nd ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum on December
20, 2025. Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Bad Abdelatty, spoke on behalf of President
Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He said Egypt is committed to building a fair and stable
international system.
Abdelatty also said it should follow the United Nations
Charter and relevant UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions. He
added that Egypt and Russia share this vision and support a world free from
interference in domestic affairs and with full respect for territorial
integrity.
How is Egypt
advancing Africa-Russia cooperation and global reforms?
The minister said the conference is a key step to implement
the Africa-Russia Partnership Forum’s Action Plan for 2023–2026. He added that
it is also an opportunity to start drafting the next Action Plan for 2026–2029,
which will be approved at the third Africa-Russia summit.
Abdelatty said reform of the international system must be
based on justice and balance. He added that global institutions should reflect
true multilateralism instead of old inequalities. The minister highlighted that
Africa’s population, economy, and political influence should be fully
represented in major international decision-making.
He called for greater African participation in global
financial institutions. Abdelatty also stressed
the need for UN Security Council reform, in line with the Ezulwini
Consensus and decisions of the Sirte Summit. He said African countries must
have a stronger voice in matters of global peace and security.
The minister emphasised the importance of regular political
dialogue between African countries and international partners, including
Russia. He said these talks help build mutual understanding, strengthen trust,
and coordinate positions on regional and global issues. Abdelatty said such
dialogue is key for collective action, regional stability, and sustainable
development in Africa.
Abdelatty noted Egypt’s strong partnership with Russia. The
partnership began while Egypt was the president of the African Union, and the
first Africa-Russia summit was in Sochi, co-chaired by President El-Sisi and
President Putin. He stated that this momentum towards strengthening
African-Russian relations continued with the St. Petersburg summit in 2023.
