Qatar (Washington Insider) – Qatar Rail reported 4.92
million passengers on Doha Metro and Lusail Tram during FIFA Arab Cup and
Intercontinental Cup 2025 (Dec 1–18), highlighting key stations: DECC, Lusail
QNB, Msheireb.
As Fareeha Imtiaz reported on IloveQatar News, Qatar
Railways Company (Qatar Rail) announced record ridership during the FIFA Arab
Cup Qatar 2025 and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025. Between December 1
and December 18, 2025, 4,924,919 passengers used the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram
networks.
Of these, 4,712,758 travelled by Metro and 212,161 by Tram.
The daily average was 273,606 passengers. Officials said the Metro and Tram
played a key role in moving fans and visitors safely and efficiently.
How did Qatar Rail
move millions of fans during the Arab Cup and intercontinental Cup 2025?
The Arab Cup was hosted at 6 stadiums: Lusail Stadium, Ahmad
Bin Ali Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium, Education City Stadium, Khalifa International
Stadium, and Stadium 974. 5 stadiums were within walking distance of metro
stations. Fans going to Al Bayt Stadium used dedicated shuttle buses from the
Lusail QNB Metro Station.
The 3 final matches of the Intercontinental Cup, including
the Americas Derby, the Challenge Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup Final, were
held at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, which is directly linked to Al Riffa Mall of
Qatar Metro Station.
During the events, Qatar Rail completed
48,422 train trips, with 41,843 by Metro and 6,579 by Tram. Around 34% of
spectators used the Metro to attend matches. For stadiums near metro stations,
the number rose to 50%. The busiest day was December 18, 2025, which was Qatar
National Day and the day of the Arab Cup Final.
On that day, 357,287 passengers used the networks, including
347,987 on the Metro and 9,300 on the Tram. The busiest stations were DECC,
Lusail QNB, and Msheireb on the Metro and Legtaifiya on the Tram.
Qatar Rail was supporting the Arab Cup and the
Intercontinental Cup held in the year 2025 by effectively operating their Metro
and tram systems during the tournament. In addition to providing mass transit,
Qatar Rail concentrated on educating engineers and the young local workforce
during the Arab Cup.
From December 1-18, 2025, Qatar Rail employed additional
personnel at metro and tram stations to assist patrons in managing the crowds
and navigating through the station system. Furthermore, Qatar Rail installed
more signs to help direct patrons to stadiums and give them information about
travel options. Also, Qatar Rail provided timely responses and technical
assistance in both routine and emergency service calls.
