British embassy marks King Charles III’s birthday with $500M trade

Insider) – On November 26, 2025, British Ambassador Juliana Correa hosted a
King Charles III birthday reception in Guatemala City, highlighting
UK-Guatemala ties, USD 500 million trade, 86 Chevening scholars, and 23
development projects.
As Gov UK News reported, the British Embassy in Guatemala
held a reception on Nov 26, 2025, to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty King
Charles III. The event brought together government officials, diplomats, and
representatives from different sectors. They mentioned that the gathering
highlighted the strong relationship between the United Kingdom and
Guatemala.
In her speech, British Ambassador Juliana Correa reviewed
the Embassy’s work over the past year. She spoke about efforts to fight climate
change and protect biodiversity in areas such as Trifinio, Verapaces, and
Petén.
The Ambassador also mentioned projects to safeguard
endangered species, including the scarlet macaw. She said these programs
support local communities and show the UK’s commitment to sustainable
development and environmental protection.

Charles III’s birthday?
Ambassador Correa also highlighted the growth of bilateral
trade, which reached
almost USD 500 million, making Guatemala the UK’s leading trading partner in
Central America. She spoke about the UK’s support for democracy, good
governance, and human rights.
More than 23 projects have been implemented to strengthen
transparency, build institutional capacity, provide humanitarian aid, and
protect women and girls. Education was another focus. Over 86 Guatemalan
students have received Chevening scholarships to study in the UK.
This year’s event featured the theme “The Four Nations”,
representing England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The theme
showcased the cultural diversity and heritage of the United Kingdom. Guests
enjoyed British music, art, and traditions.
The Ambassador also reaffirmed the UK’s support for
Guatemala’s democratic processes, with particular focus on the upcoming
judicial elections next year. She stressed that transparent and independent
institutions are the foundation of the rule of law.
The celebration ended with a ceremonial toast to His Majesty
King Charles III. Guests highlighted the long-standing friendship between the
United Kingdom and Guatemala. They also expressed a shared vision for a
sustainable and prosperous future.
Guatemala has maintained diplomatic ties with the UK since
1834. Both countries have worked together in various fields such as trade,
education and development for nearly 2 centuries. Events highlighting important
national events held by the British Embassy in Guatemala include the coronation
of the King of England and the annual celebration of the King’s birthday. King
Charles III became King on the 8th of September 2022 after Queen Elizabeth II
passed away. The King’s official birthday is 14 November; however, embassy
celebrations sometimes occur later in November.
