countries opposed Blair’s involvement.
Donald Trump, the chairman of the United States, has
declared he’ll serve as the council’s president. According to the Financial
Times, Blair was long considered for a significant position in the
administration but has since been withdrawn.
In addition to managing a plan for Gaza from his Tony Blair
Institute for Global Change, which included Trump’s son- in- law Jared Kushner,
Blair had been championing for a postwar council seat.
The former British leader’s sympathizers refocused on his
donation to the Good Friday Agreement, which put an end to decades of violence
and fermentation in Northern Ireland.
Still, his critics emphasized his previous part as a
representative of the Middle East Quintet, which was composed of the United
Nations, the European Union, Russia, and the United States and sought to
promote peace in the region.
In addition, the Arab world views Blair’s participation in
the Iraq War negatively.
Blair was the only person publicly mentioned as a possible
member of the postwar peace council following Trump’s September announcement of
his 20-point plan to resolve the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The US president called him a “very
good man” and endorsed his appointment.
The US and Israel supported Blair’s engagement, a source
told the Financial Times.
Fears that the occupied Palestinian lands might permanently
become separate polities were stoked by the US plan for Gaza, which was
condemned in some quarters for proposing a separate Gaza framework that
excluded the West Bank.
Trump said in October:
“I’ve always liked Tony, but I
want to find out that he’s an acceptable choice to everybody.”
According to reports, Blair met with Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu in private late last month to discuss plans.
The former prime minister would not be on Gaza’s “board
of peace,” according to an ally, although his office refused to confirm to
The Guardian.
What role will Jared Kushner play in the proposed council?
Jared Kushner is anticipated to serve on the administrative
commission of the proposed US- led Gaza transitional council or” board of
peace,” playing a crucial part in reconstruction and governance alongside
Steve Witkoff, using his previous Middle East experience from the Abraham
Accords.
As a trusted Trump counsel without a formal government
position, Kushner would oversee ceasefire perpetration, profitable
redevelopment (including controversial shorefront plans), and collaboration
with indigenous stakeholders, drawing from his real estate background and Saudi
ties.
His involvement persists despite Tony Blair’s junking due to
Arab expostulations, situating Kushner centrally in Trump’s phased Gaza
strategy advertisement anticipated before Christmas 2025.
