Jessica Swartz announces second bid for Michigan’s 4th District
- Jessica
Swartz announces second congressional bid. - Running
as Democratic candidate in Michigan’s 4th. - Based
in Kalamazoo, legal background emphasized.
In a post on X, Swartz announced her campaign, promising to
lower expenses for Michigan people, protect Medicare and Social Security, and,
if elected, generate “good-paying jobs” in her state. Interestingly,
Michigan was considered one of the most important battleground states for the
2024 election.
“We cannot sit by and watch the extremists in Washington
dismantle our Democracy, tank our economy, and increase taxes on the working
class, all the while giving kickbacks to billionaires like Elon Musk,”
Swartz wrote on X.
Republican Michigan Representative Bill Huizenga, who was
first elected to Congress in 2011, now represents Michigan’s 4th Congressional
District. In the November 2024 election, Huizenga far outperformed Swartz,
receiving 55.1% of the vote compared to Swartz’s 43.4%.
Swartz was formerly employed by the U.S. as an appellate
lawyer. Department of Veterans Affairs, as stated on her campaign website. Over
the past few years, she has supported a number of left-wing causes, including
defending abortion rights and addressing climate change.
In an effort to recapture control of the House in 2026, the
Popular Congressional Campaign Committee announced
on Tuesday a list of 35 Democratic- held Congressional sections that are”
competitive.” Huizenga’s seat was linked as one that the party believes
could be a pivotal volley occasion for the 2026 quiz choices.
In Michigan, former Vice President Kamala Harris entered
48.3% of the vote, while President Donald Trump entered 49.7% in the
presidential election of 2020.

What are Bill Huizenga’s vulnerabilities in the 4th District
rematch?
The District’s boundaries shifted further south to include
further civic and traditionally Popular- leaning areas like Kalamazoo and
corridor of Battle Creek, potentially eroding the Democratic base
slightly.
Huizenga’s support for former President Donald Trump,
including voting against Trump’s indictment and entering his countersign, could
alienate moderate and independent voters uncomfortable with the Trump
alignment. His station on confining revocation access contrasts with a growing
demand for reproductive rights protections in some corridor of the
quarter.
Profitable enterprises similar to rising living costs and
job security challenges make the electorate open to indispensable voices
promising profitable occasion and middle- class support. Popular rival Jessica
Swartz’s emphasis on profitable fairness, reproductive rights, and clean
governance gates into dissatisfaction with prejudiced deadlock and programs
perceived as dangerous to working families.
