Iran & Pakistan align on trade, security, and regional peace
Iran (Washington Insider) – Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi and
Pakistani FM Muhammad Ishaq Dar held a phone call on Sunday, Dec 21, 2025,
discussing trade, energy, security, regional stability, and joint initiatives
to strengthen Iran-Pakistan ties.
As Newz AZ International reported, Iranian Foreign Minister
Abbas Araghchi and Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar held a phone
call on Sunday, Dec 21, 2025, to discuss ways to strengthen relations between
their countries.
The 2 leaders highlighted the importance of cooperation in trade,
energy, security, and infrastructure. They said closer collaboration would
benefit both nations economically and politically.
How are Iran and
Pakistan strengthening ties on trade and peace?
The ministers discussed regional developments and the importance
of peace and stability. They emphasised that continued diplomatic talks with
neighbouring countries are necessary. Both sides said close coordination can help
address security threats, cross-border issues, and humanitarian challenges.
Araghchi and Dar also agreed to pursue joint initiatives and
consult with other countries to support regional peace.
Pakistan’s relationship with Iran dates back many years to
when Iran was among the first to extend diplomatic recognition to Pakistan on
August 22, 1947, shortly after the establishment of Pakistan. Since then, the 2
nations have enjoyed the stability of an official diplomatic
relationship.
Both countries share a 909 km-long border, and in the recent
past have worked collaboratively to improve both economic and security
cooperation. In 2025, these 2 countries were working towards establishing a
joint committee to facilitate the movement of cross-border goods through joint
examples of cooperation and facilitating trade between the 2 nations.
In August 2005, there was a high-profile visit to Islamabad
by President Masoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which resulted
in extensive agreements for the expansion of trade, as well as for further
collaborative ventures between the 2 nations.
Additionally, both nations have maintained regular
diplomatic dialogue between the partners. It is hoped that the continuation of
regular diplomatic discussions, economic partnerships, and the target to
achieve $10 billion in bilateral trade, as well as increased cooperation and
coordination on regional connectivity and cross-border management, will
continue well into the future.
