Azerbaijan & Egypt review ties as Gafarova, Reda lead talks
Egypt (Washington Insider) – Azerbaijan and Egypt
reviewed growing ties, supported by heads of state. Sahiba Gafarova and
Ambassador Houssam-Eldine Reda stressed stronger parliamentary cooperation and
broader collaboration.
As NewzAZ reported, a meeting was held to review the state
of relations between Azerbaijan and Egypt by Sahiba Gafarova and Ambassador
Houssam-Eldine Reda. The sides said bilateral ties are strong and continue to
grow. They highlighted the role of the heads of state in supporting this
progress.
How are Azerbaijan and Egypt strengthening ties through
Gafarova and Reda?
The discussion also focused
on cooperation between Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis and both chambers of the
Egyptian Parliament. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova said regular
visits by parliamentary delegations have strengthened dialogue.
She noted that active parliamentary friendship groups have
helped build trust and closer ties. These exchanges, she said, have reinforced
legislative cooperation and encouraged the sharing of experience.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Houssam-Eldine Reda, said
Egypt remains committed to strengthening interparliamentary relations. He
confirmed readiness to deepen cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
The meeting also covered a range of regional and international issues.
On April 8, 1992, Azerbaijan and Egypt established
diplomatic relations after Azerbaijan declared its independence; one of the
first countries to recognise Azerbaijan was Egypt (which opened an embassy in
Baku in 1993) and later opened an embassy in Cairo.
Political contact and cooperation between Azerbaijan and
Egypt has been occurring through international organisations such as the United
Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation for over 2 decades now.
