  • Trump called Greene’s resignation "great news for the country."
  • He labeled Greene a "traitor" after their fallout.
  • Greene resigned due to Trump’s political opposition.

In response to Marjorie Taylor Greene's resignation as a member of Congress on Friday, Donald Trump called the decision "great for the country" and appeared unconcerned with his former friend and supporter's departure.

Trump told Scott, according to her X posts ...

"I think it's great news for the country. It's great."

When Scott asked if he was given a heads up, Trump replied,

"Nah, it doesn't matter, you know but I think it's great. I think she should be happy."

Since their recent breakup over the Epstein files and other matters, like affordability, Trump and Greene have been at each other's throats.

Trump attempted to thwart Greene's demands for the release of the Epstein files until last week, when he abruptly changed his mind and signed the legislation making them accessible. Greene is a devout Republican from Georgia and one of Trump's most ardent supporters. The files must be made public by the Justice Department by December 19.

Trump responded to Greene's comments by calling her a "wacky Marjorie" and calling her a "ranting lunatic."

How will her resignation affect the House Republican majority?

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s abdication will reduce the Democratic maturity in the House by one seat, tensing an formerly narrow periphery. presently, Republicans hold a slim maturity, generally about 219 to 213 seats over Egalitarians. With Greene’s departure, the GOP maturity will temporarily shrink to 218 or smaller, depending on the timing of the abdication and the scheduling of a special election to fill her seat.

This reduction increases the pressure on Democratic leadership, as they will have lower latitude in party- line votes. Losing indeed a couple of Democratic votes could peril passing legislation if Egalitarians remain united.

The House maturity calculation post-Greene abdication highlights how fragile Democratic control is and underscores the significance for Republicans to hold her seat in the preceding special election to maintain a workable maturity leading up to the 2026 research.
