- Congressman Rick Scott targeted by swatting.
- Incident occurred at family home Thanksgiving.
- Scott described act as "disgusting".
He acknowledged the incident on social media early on November 27. Scott is a two-term Florida governor and a member of the UnitedStates Senate, representing Southwest Florida since 2019.
He complimented law officials and said the calls "only seek to put law enforcement in harm's way and instill fear in targets and communities - they must stop."
"This morning, I received a call from local law enforcement that there was another attempted swatting incident on my family’s home,"
he said.
"I wasn’t home at the time and I thank God that everyone is safe ..."
Swatting is a type of digital harassment that can put lawmakers, educators, students, and other high-profile individuals in danger. A person or group files a bogus emergency report, citing a shooting, bomb threat, or hostage crisis to elicit a police response.
In October, 13 Florida school districts, including Collier and Lee, got a swatting call that threatened widespread harm. Local police officials increased protection surrounding each school.
Have there been similar swatting attempts targeting other public officials recently?
Swatting attempts targeting public officers have surged lately, particularly in late 2025 amid political pressures like redistricting. Indiana saw a coordinated surge in November 2025 at least five GOP state legislators( Spencer Deery, Dan Dernulc, Greg Goode, Rick Niemeyer, Kyle Walker) targeted within days.
Following these attacks, Scott has been championing for the" Preserving Safe Communities by Ending Swatting Act," which seeks to make swatting a civil crime with serious penalties, including captivity terms of over to life if a death occurs. The disquisition into the Thanksgiving incident remains ongoing.
Authorities link these to ideological motives and election hostility; Indiana State Police probe for execution, emphasizing no- arrest phonies but murderous pitfalls. Trump denied pitfalls; incidents reflect rising political violence trends. officers prompt alert; FBI tracks nationwide.
