Summary

  • Trump endorsed Mike Rogers for Michigan’s U.S. Senate race.
  • Rogers previously lost the 2024 Senate race narrowly.
  • Trump convinced Rep. Bill Huizenga to not challenge Rogers.
  • Republicans aim to flip the seat to expand the Senate majority.

Trump's endorsement of Rogers, a former White Lake congressman, was posted on Trump's Truth social media network Thursday night.

“From the U.S. Army to Congress, Mike has served our Nation with distinction, and will bring that same Fighting Spirit to the U.S. Senate,”

Trump wrote.

“As your next Senator, Mike will work tirelessly to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE by keeping the price of Gasoline, Oil, and all forms of Energy VERY LOW (CHEAP!), Help Secure our now VERY Secure (Record Setting!) Southern Border, Support our Incredible Military/Veterans, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment.”

In 2024, Rogers ran for the U.S. Senate and was endorsed by Trump; however, he lost to current U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly).  Trump once more declared that Rogers had his "complete and total endorsement" for the 2026 election.

In a post on X, Rogers expressed gratitude to Trump.

“We’re going to Make America – and Michigan – Great Again!”

Rogers wrote.

“Michigan, let’s get to work!”

Rogers would continue to be the presumed nominee of the Michigan Republican Party if no other contender emerged.

In the already crowded U.S. Senate contest, Rogers would face one of several Michigan Democrats in the second round of his senatorial campaign. U.S. Representative Haley Stevens (D-Birmingham), state senator Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak), state representative Joe Tate (D-Detroit), and former governor candidate Abdul El-Sayed are among the Democrats on the list.

Trump also acknowledged Holland Township Republican U.S. Representative Bill Huizenga, who was on the verge of challenging Rogers in the Republican U.S. Senate primary but changed his mind on Wednesday.

Trump stated on his preferred social media platform that he hopes Huizenga would remain in Congress, despite the fact that he has not yet declared whether he will run for reelection to his seat in the Michigan 4th Congressional District.

“Congressman Bill Huizenga is a Tremendous Champion, and Highly Effective Representative, for the incredible people of Michigan’s 4th Congressional District!”

Trump wrote Thursday.

“Bill is doing a truly FANTASTIC job representing Southwest Michigan, and I hope he runs for Re-Election to Michigan’s 4th Congressional District — He will have my Complete and Total Endorsement, and he will never let us down!”

What are Mike Rogers’s key policy positions for the Senate race?

Rogers focuses strongly on combating inflation by eliminating wasteful government spending. He criticizes federal aid to undocumented immigrants, suggesting funds could be better spent supporting state troopers and teachers in Michigan.

He blames the Biden administration for rising prices of groceries, gas, and housing, and positions himself as a fighter against the high cost of living impacting American families.

He supports policies that help families save for children's education, including legislation related to 529 college savings programs and eliminating federal taxes on education savings plans.
