  • Two new polls show Americans still feel pain.
  • Majority say Trump sugarcoats inflation effects.
  • Groceries, housing, health care top concerns.

According to a CBS News/YouGov survey, 60% of Americans think that Trump exaggerates inflation and pricing. In contrast, 13% of respondents believe that Trump exaggerates the news concerning inflation and prices, and 27% believe that he makes them sound worse than they actually are.

However, according to the survey, four out of ten Republicans believe that the president is exaggerating the benefits of affordability. Furthermore, 29% of Republicans believe that prices have gone up, and 25% disagree with Trump's handling of inflation.

Additionally, 32% of Republicans believe that the policies of the Trump administration have increased the cost of groceries and meals. The same percentage of Republicans claim that the initiatives have reduced the cost of groceries and food.

Due in large part to their emphasis on affordability and the cost of living, Democrats won elections earlier this month across the nation, from California to Georgia to New Jersey and Virginia.

Non-white voters, notably Latino voters who supported Trump in 2024, found the message especially compelling. According to the survey, 70% of Hispanics believe that Trump's actions are driving up the cost of food and groceries, and 68% believe that the cost of goods and services has gone up.

Affordability has been referred to by the president on numerous occasions as a "new word" and a "con job by the Democrats." However, he welcomed Zohran Mamdani, the incoming mayor of NewYork City, to the Oval Office on Friday. Mamdani defeated fellow Democrats for the position earlier this month by primarily concentrating on the expense of rent and pledging to make childcare and transit free.

“We had some interesting conversation and some of his ideas really are the same ideas that I have,”

a suddenly receptive Trump said beside Mamdani.

What expenses worry Americans the most was revealed by another Politico survey. According to the survey, 45% of Americans believe groceries are the "most challenging" cost of living to finance, followed by housing (38%), health care (34%), and utility bills (31%).

Mamdani claimed during their discussion that by concentrating on the expense of living, he and Trump were able to win their respective elections.

“I told the president that, so much of the focus of our campaign has been on the cost of living crisis and when we asked those New Yorkers who had voted for the president, when we saw an increase in his numbers in New York City, that came back to the same issue: cost of living, cost of living, cost of living,”

Mamdani said.

But left-wing Democrats were not the only ones who benefited from rising living expenses. By advocating for a halt to utility hikes, moderate Mikie Sherrill won the governorship of New Jersey.

How might tariffs continue to affect prices this winter?

Tariffs are anticipated to continue plying upward pressure on prices this downtime, particularly on food and consumer goods. Although some manufacturers and retailers may try to limit price increases or offer elevations, the cost burdens from tariffs on particulars like canned goods, dairy, meat, and vacation masses similar to pies remain significant.

Tariff- related cost increases on aluminum and sword have pushed up prices for mimetic products, while dislocations in force chains and beast health issues add to affectation pressures on crucial food particulars.

Experts advise that indeed as supplies replenish, prices are doubtful to return to pre-tariff situations, as businesses acclimate to the advanced cost structure. The complexity of pricing strategies and patient intermediate input cost increases mean tariffs' inflationary goods will probably be felt well into the vacation season and beyond.
