Russian Lt. General Fanil Sarvarov killed in Moscow car bomb
Russia (Washington Insider) – On December 22, 2025, a
56-year-old Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, head of Russia’s Operational Training
Directorate, was killed by a car bomb in Moscow, the 3rd Russian general killed
this year.

Sarvarov was killed when a bomb exploded under his car in Moscow.
The blast happened early in the morning in a parking area on
Yasenevaya Street. Sarvarov was taken to a hospital with serious injuries,
including shrapnel wounds and broken bones. He later died from those
injuries.
What caused the death

Russian officials have launched an inquiry into the attack.
They are considering foreign intelligence services’ involvement, according
to officials who believe that there might be a connection with Ukraine. As
yet, no organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Kremlin
announced that President Vladimir Putin was immediately notified.
Sarvarov leads the army’s Operational Training Directorate
as a 56-year-old Lieutenant General. His group focuses on planning and
preparing the army to undertake combat. Sarvarov has a rich background as a
Russian army officer. He has taken part in battles during the Chechen wars in
the 1990s and the early 2000s. He also went to the Syrian and Ukrainian wars.
