Qatar (Washington Insider) - Qatar and Norway held political talks in Doha on Tuesday, Dec 16, 2025. Dr Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi and Stine Renate Håheim led discussions on bilateral ties, cooperation, and regional and international issues.
As QNA reported, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Norway held political consultations in Doha on Tuesday, Dec 16, 2025. The Qatari side was headed by HE Dr Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Norwegian delegation was led by HE Stine Renate Håheim, State Secretary at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
What did Qatar and Norway discuss in their Doha political talks?
Officials from both sides reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in areas of shared interest. The talks focused on supporting existing partnerships and identifying opportunities to expand cooperation through established diplomatic channels.
Moreover, there was a mutual agreement between both parties following their consultations to work together on political issues that would affect them locally or within the global region. Both parties agreed to continue to keep one another updated via political consultations, and they also reached an agreement to enhance cooperation at both the regional and international levels between Qatar and Norway.
Since1973, Qatar and Norway have had a diplomatic relationship. Over the last 2 decades, relations between Qatar and Norway have strengthened, due in part to an increasing number of diplomatic contacts as well as the growing number of areas where both nations share interests with regard to international issues.
The areas of diplomacy, energy, and humanitarian aid are growing in importance in Qatar-Norway relations, and since Early 2000, Qatar-Norway relations have grown significantly in these areas. Political consultations have taken place regularly between the 2 nations.
A consultative meeting took place in 2022 in Oslo, and an additional consultative meeting was held in 2024 in Doha, which together form part of an overall framework for continuing political consultation between Qatar and Norway.
