Gavin Newsom mocks Trump with AI baby images after wins
Among the pictures were
depictions of a weeping kid being fed spaghetti and the president as a baby in
a stroller.
However, Newsom has been
confronting the president on platforms other than social media, imitating the
president’s online trolling technique for months.
Newsom rejoiced on Tuesday
after California voters handily approved Proposition 50, a ballot initiative
that would restructure the state’s district lines and possibly gain five
Democratic seats in Congress.
The governor, one of the
measure’s main supporters, has said that the proposal was required due to a
Trump-led Republican attempt in Texas to gain up to five GOP seats. This is
just one of several actions that Newsom claims equate to Trump attempting to
“rig” the 2026 midterm elections in his favor.
“Tonight, after poking the
bear, this bear roared, with unprecedented turnout in a special election,”
Newsom said Tuesday in a
victory speech.
“None of use however are
naive,”
he added.
“This is a pattern.
This is a practice. Donald Trump’s efforts to rig the midterm election continue
to this day… Donald Trump does not believe in free and fair elections.”
The Democrat has argued
that Trump moves, including sending the military and National Guard to mostly
Democrat-led cities around the country, are authoritarian attempts to stifle
political opposition.
Democratic socialist Zohran
Mamdani won the mayoral contest in New York City, while Democrats flipped red
governor’s seats in Virginia and New Jersey, among other bellwether blue
successes from yesterday’s elections.
During a meeting with
Congress on Wednesday, President Trump refrained from his customary barrage and
admitted that the GOP’s performance in the midterms was subpar, blaming the
current government shutdown.
The president has urged
Republicans to end the filibuster, a procedural rule that requires a
supermajority of 60 votes to pass the Senate, in order to end the shutdown.
How have voters reacted to Newsom’s AI baby posts?
Voter responses to Governor Gavin Newsom’s AI- generated baby
Trump posts have been mixed but generally poignant in terms of social media
engagement. Numerous Egalitarians and progressive sympathizers have embraced
the sportful and instigative style as a stimulating change, appreciating
Newsom’s digital bravado and sharp lampoon aimed at former President
Trump.
The posts have gone viral, boosting Newsom’s profile and marking
him as a strong and unapologetic voice within the party, reverberating
especially with youngish and further digitally smart choosers.
Still, some voters, including centrists and critics, view the
posts as divisive and potentially unpresidential, concerned that similar capers
might consolidate polarization rather than foster formative dialogue.
